Starflowers are a conversation piece in any garden! Very interesting blooms/seed pods can be used fresh and dried flower arrangements.

Soil temps required for germination 65°-70°. Once established plants can be grown down to temps of 55°.

Direct sow after threat of frost has passed for your region. Or these can be started indoors up to 4-6 weeks before last frost to be transplanted out after hardening off. Seeds need light to germinate so press into surface or barely dust with vermiculite or other light soil just enough to hold seed in place.

For fresh flowers harvest when flowers are almost open. For dried flowers cut when seed heads are light green with hints of bronze edges and the inner stars are just turning black. Then hang to dry in a warm, draft free location. Limited light sources while drying helps to maintain the color of dried flowers. **if harvested too late for dried flowers they will be extremely fragile**
